FAQ

Questions parents ask about KidSpin

If you don't find your answer here, email asadtechlead@gmail.com — Asad replies personally, usually within a day.

What age is KidSpin for?

Ages 2 to 7. The core curriculum is designed for kids 3-5; older kids 5-7 can use the harder modules (math, multiplication, six kalimas, the Trace and Phonics blend games). For toddlers (2-3), use the "Quick" toggle in each module — it shortens the prompts to 2-3 words instead of full sentences.

Is KidSpin really in Urdu?

Yes. KidSpin is the only Urdu-native preschool learning app on the Pakistani Play Store. The alif bay pay primer is qaida-style — اَنار، بَطَخ، پَنکھا، تِتلی — pronounced by a native Urdu speaker, not a TTS dub. Namaz, the six kalimas, and Islamic basics are voiced in Urdu and English. You can toggle the whole app between English and Urdu in one tap.

Does KidSpin collect any personal data from my child?

No. There's no login, no account, no name field, no email, no analytics SDKs that profile children, no third-party social logins. Progress is stored locally on the device using SharedPreferences. KidSpin is fully COPPA-compliant, GDPR-K aligned, and Google Play Families Policy compliant. Read the full privacy policy.

Why does KidSpin need microphone permission?

Only for the Echo talk-back feature. The child taps the Echo character, says something for up to 5 seconds, and Echo plays it back at a higher pitch (Talking-Tom style). The audio is captured on the device, played back once, then deleted. It is never uploaded, never transcribed, never analysed. If you don't grant the permission, every other part of KidSpin still works — only Echo is unavailable.

Does KidSpin work offline?

Yes. Every learning module, mini-game, and Echo works offline. KidSpin only needs the internet for two things: showing an interstitial ad (free version), and processing the optional Bonus Pack purchase via Google Play. If you turn off the internet entirely, you'll just see no ads and the app stays usable.

How much does KidSpin cost?

Free with non-personalized ads (~once every few minutes of play, never on app launch). Optional Bonus Pack: one-time $1.99 (PKR 199 in Pakistan). The Bonus Pack removes ads forever and unlocks 13 additional modules. No subscription. See full pricing.

How are the ads safe for kids?

Ads come from Google AdMob with tagForChildDirectedTreatment: TRUE, max content rating G (general audiences), and non-personalized only. No rewarded ads (the inventory is blocked for child-directed apps anyway). Never on app launch. 90-second cooldown between interstitials. Ads are tied to weighted learning actions, not raw screen taps, so a child mashing buttons can never trigger an ad blast.

Why does my child see the same letter every day?

By design. KidSpin uses mastery learning (Bloom 1968, Khan Academy Kids, Letterland). Today's Path locks three slots per day and re-presents each item until your child has collected its sticker — that's the mastery signal. Once mastered, the path moves on. Sequential A→Z, qaida-style, is how kids learn to read. Random shuffles feel "fun" but don't build durable reading skill.

Can my child accidentally buy something?

No. The Bonus Pack purchase screen, the Settings screen, and every external link sit behind a parental gate that asks a simple math problem (e.g. "9 + 7 = ?"). Kids 2-7 cannot pass this gate. This is the standard mechanism described in Google's Families Policy.

How much screen time is healthy at this age?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends ≤1 hour/day of high-quality screen media for kids 2-5, ideally with a parent watching together. KidSpin's Today's Path is designed for ~15 minutes per session. The Calm Time module is a 30-second breathing exercise — pull it out before any device-related meltdown.

Is KidSpin available on iPhone or iPad?

Android first. iOS submission is planned. The codebase is Flutter so the iOS version is mostly the same app — what slows us is App Store Connect setup and the in-app Echo audio engine differences. Follow the blog for the iOS launch announcement.

Can my child use KidSpin without us watching?

Yes — KidSpin is intentionally safe to hand to a child without supervision: no login, no chat, no UGC, no external links without a parental gate, no rewarded ads, no in-app currency, no dark patterns. That said, sitting with a 3-year-old during their first few sessions massively increases learning transfer (Khan Academy Kids research, 2024). Try it.
