KidSpin Echo screen: a round purple cartoon creature with pulsing rings while the microphone turns on

How Echo works

  1. Open Echo from the pill at the top of KidSpin’s home screen. The phone asks for microphone permission the first time, and only then.
  2. Your child talks. Echo listens, and notices when they stop speaking.
  3. Echo repeats it in a higher-pitched cartoon voice while the character moves.
  4. The recording is deleted straight after playback, and Echo listens again.

Echo does not understand words and does not use speech recognition, so it works in whatever language your child speaks. Leaving the screen stops the microphone.

Echo and Talking Tom-style apps

Talking-pet apps are hugely popular: My Talking Tom lists more than a billion installs on Google Play. Its listing also shows “Contains ads” and in-app purchases. Echo is a smaller, simpler idea inside a learning app.

Use Echo as a speaking game

Many young children love hearing their own voice played back, which makes Echo an easy way to get them talking. Use it as a speaking game: ask your child to tell Echo the name of an animal, a colour or a letter they learned today, in English or Urdu. Keep sessions short and stay nearby.

Questions parents ask

Does Echo understand what my child says?

No. Echo only records and replays the sound at a higher pitch. There is no speech recognition, no transcript and no AI listening.

Is the recording uploaded anywhere?

No. The audio is saved to a temporary file on the phone, played back, then deleted. Nothing is sent to a server.

Which languages does Echo work in?

Any language. Because Echo repeats sounds instead of understanding words, every language works the same way.

Is Echo free?

Yes. Echo is part of the free app, with no ads and nothing to buy.
