What is on each sheet

How to use them (5 minutes a day)

  1. Say it first. Point to the letter and say its name and sound together: "bay, b-b-batakh".
  2. Trace with a finger. Your child traces the model letter with a finger, from the green 1 along the arrows.
  3. Trace with a crayon or pencil. Next, the three guided copies, then the three dotted ones.
  4. Stop while it's fun. One sheet is enough. Come back to the same letter tomorrow if it was hard.

For Urdu, remind your child that we write from right to left and put the nuqte (dots) on last. For 3 and 4 year olds, a thick crayon is easier to hold than a pencil.

Made from the app's own stroke data

A small script draws every sheet from the same stroke paths the KidSpin tracing game uses, so the start dots, the stroke order and the direction on paper match the app exactly. English letters follow the stroke order taught in many schools (top first, then down; round letters like O go anticlockwise). The Urdu letters, including ط, ظ and ھ, follow qaida handwriting: the body first, right to left, and the dots last.

The shapes are simplified for small hands: one clear line to follow. The Urdu letters use a simple naskh style, while many qaida books print nastaliq.

Practise the same letters on the phone

KidSpin is a free Android app for ages 3 to 7 with no ads and no login. Each letter card has a Trace button: your child drags a finger from the green dot and the paint only fills in the right direction. It also has the Urdu qaida, counting and Urdu ginti, phonics, namaz and duas, in English and Urdu.

Questions parents ask

Are these worksheets really free?

Yes. Download and print as many as you like, with no sign-up and no email. You may photocopy them for your own children or your class. Please don't sell them.

Alif bay pay likhne ki worksheet free mein kahan milegi?

On this page. The Urdu pack has all 39 haroof e tahaji from alif to bari ye, one letter per A4 page, with numbered start dots and arrows. Download the PDF and print it at home; there is no sign-up and no email.

What paper size are they?

A4. On US Letter paper, choose "Fit to page" in the print dialog.

Why does the Urdu letter look different from my child's qaida book?

The sheets use a simple naskh-style shape so small hands can follow one line. Many qaida books print nastaliq. The letter is the same; show your child both. If their teacher writes a letter differently, follow the teacher.

In what order should my child trace the strokes?

Start at the green 1 and follow the arrows, then the green 2, and so on. Urdu letters are written right to left and the nuqte (dots) come last. This is the same order the KidSpin tracing game uses.

Which sheet should we start with?

Ages 3 to 4: one capital letter or one Urdu letter a day, traced with a finger first and then a crayon. Ages 5 to 7: a sheet a day in pencil, plus the Urdu ginti page once they can count to 10.

Is there a version on the phone?

Yes. The free KidSpin app has the same letters with a finger-tracing game that only fills in the right direction. You can also try it in your browser on the free tracing game page.
